Magix Xtreme Photo Designer is compatible with the gold standard image file formats like JPEG, GIF, TIFF, PNG and others. Photos and image files can be uploaded from digital cameras and scanners, however, they cannot be edited in their RAW format.
As freeware goes, there is generally very little in the way of resources to help users gain additional program knowledge or troubleshoot technical issues. With Xtreme Photo Designer, however, users do have the benefit of its manufacturer, Magix, which hosts FAQ sections, knowledgebases and community forums for nearly all of its products. It is unlikely that Magix Xtreme Photo Designer users will find the same degree of assistance from Magix as its other paid-software users, but, email information is available.
Magix Xtreme Photo Designer is free, yes, but comes at the cost of quality image editing. It does have a few features, like perspective effects, which are worth paying for, but many of the others are well below the quality of even outdated online image editing applications. It’s a nice gesture from Magix, who, in their defense, do prove their potential with other software programs like its photo slideshow program Photo Story, but users seeking to put professional polishes ought to look elsewhere, perhaps to top-rated image editing software programs Adobe Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Photo Pro and Serif PhotoPlus X3. Also, for Mac users, Pixelmator is as capable—and economical—an image editing program as any.
